30
December

This
year’s Lions Festive Walk from Baddesley Clinton National Trust
House returns to a Sunday on 30th December.
Knowle
and Dorridge Lions hope that the change will encourage numbers
back to the 500 or so walkers who have previously turned up keen
to walk off the Christmas pud in the Warwickshire countryside.
‘The
change from the usual Sunday for the past two years was unavoidable,’
says Walk organiser Simon Newell. ‘We hope that by the 30th December
most people will have had enough relaxation in front of their
TVs and PCs and will want to get out and get some exercise and
raise funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice, Jennifer Trust for
Spinal Muscular Atrophy, the Meningitis Trust and other local
causes.’ The Lions Festive Walks have raised over £60,000 since
1993 for over 35 different national and local charities.
Always
based around Baddesley Clinton House where the National Trust
provide the free use of their car park and facilities, the signposted
walks range from 4 to 11 miles along country paths, lanes and
towpaths, will use the Tom O’ the Wood for refreshment.
‘This
year we have 4 supporters - in addition to the Tom o’ the Wood,
e-on, John Shepherd and Midlands Fuel Oils are all ensuring that
all our costs are covered and hence that the Lions can assure
walkers that every pound of donation or sponsorship will go to
the deserving causes’, says Simon. ‘We hope that readers families
will make the free to enter Walks part of their Festive calendar
and will commit to collecting lots of sponsorship from colleagues
and friends over the Christmas period for these very worthy causes.’
